About the Institute for Respiratory Health

The Institute for Respiratory Health (Inc) is a not-for-profit medical research institute, carrying out scientific and clinical research into the treatment and management of lung disease such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, mesothelioma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis. Our Mission is that we bring together world-class researchers to develop new ideas, treatments and better health outcomes for people living with respiratory disease.

Within the Institute sits the Centre for Clinical Trials, one of the largest respiratory trials clinics in Australia. The Institute co-ordinates clinical trials across two sites in Perth Western Australia, the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Nedlands and Midland Railway Workshops in Midland.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for the medical aspects of clinical trials in accordance with study protocols
  • Conduct medical histories, physical examinations, diagnoses, and ongoing medical supervision and monitoring of trial participants
  • Provide medical advice and opinions for patients participating in clinical trials
  • Prescribe medications as required by protocol
  • Work closely with the Clinical Trials Unit and study sponsors to ensure accurate, high-quality data collection
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and approved protocols
  • Participate in protocol-related meetings, with opportunities to attend interstate and overseas meetings

 Appointment Prerequisites

  • National Police Clearance.
  • Provision of the minimum identity proofing requirements.
  • Staff must comply with, including Operational Directive 0388/12 “Health Care Worker Immunisation Policy” (issued under the Public Health Policy Framework), or its replacement.
  • Current registration with AHPRA with no restrictions

About You

  • Medical qualification with current registration with AHPRA
  • Experience or strong interest in clinical trials and research
  • Strong knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and clinical trial regulations with a current GCP certificate.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and data integrity
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
